Blackout was a stunning find. Written and illustrated by John Rocco, Blackout shows a family all busy doing their own thing on summer night in the city. But when the power suddenly goes out, the whole family, and then the entire neighborhood, comes together to enjoy the power outage. When the power comes back on, everyone goes back to their normal routine… until someone switches off the light! The illustrations are bold and fun and I loved the urban setting of the story. The message is a familiar one, but the book feels unique and special. It also inspired a screen free week in my home. But you don’t have to go completely screen free or wait for a blackout to take a break for a little family time.
